The CSA farm share pick-up location has changed this year to the 5 Loaves Farmhouse at 70 W. Delavan. This structure, once a falling down house, has been transformed into a center not only for the farm, but for the community as well. We are excited about the numerous opportunities this new facility provides for 5 Loaves Farm to welcome the community into our space.
For the farm the Farmhouse provides kitchen space for prepping produce in cold or rainy weather, cold storage to keep our produce fresh, space for our staff and youth employees to meet, plan, and work on projects. Also very importantly it provides bathroom facilities for staff and volunteers working at the farm!
The Farmhouse has been welcoming to the community as well, as a place host a family get-together, birthday party, or class. It’s also used for regular meetings by community organizations like PUSH Buffalo, the Hispanic Womens’ League, Jericho Road Community Health Center, and the Buffalo Vineyard Church.
This space also offers a plethora of opportunities for our Community Supported Agriculture program to build a community that is connected to their food source and the farmers growing that food. As families come to pick-up their farm shares this year, the Farmhouse provides a welcoming place to come get your produce, enjoy something to drink, sit on the porch, and enjoy being surrounded by the farm.
At pick-up this year we are partnering with Song Roastery, who will be providing fresh coffee to drink, along with fresh roasted beans that you can purchase to take home with you. The kitchen will provide an opportunity for the produce of the farm to be shared in unique ways. This week we’ll have warm biscuits to celebrate the first crop of honey harvested at 5 Loaves Farm! In the future we hope to have classes, events, and samples that will help CSA members try new healthy recipes with the diverse and novel fruits and veggies you get as a part of our CSA program.
Be looking for other opportunities to be welcomed into the 5 Loaves Farm community, like our post-CSA pick-up campfires (the first one is Thursday, June 21 @ 7:30pm), or the CSA Picnic on July 22, or our Art at the Farm event and fundraiser on July 27. You can also come by on a Saturday morning to be a part of Contemplation & Cultivation group. Whenever you happen to stop by, know that you’re always welcome!
